With just an eighth of women journalism graduates joining the newsroom in Kenya, chances of growing to influential decision-making diminish in this male-dominated profession. Those in the newsroom also face challenges including exploitation in various forms, stunted professional growth and limited access to opportunities based on their gender. It is for this and other reasons that the Woman’s Newsroom Foundation is focused on supporting sprouting and seasoned women journalists to grow, fight and compete for opportunities. This will not only help them grow into established professionals, but also cement the place of women in decision-making in the newsroom.
The mentorship program brings in- as individuals or groups and organisations- other experienced and veteran women journalists for networking, knowledge and experience sharing.
