While the Constitution of Kenya is taunted as one of the most progressive in Africa and globally, men continue to dominate politics and other public offices and spaces. One of the most pressing and urgent issues today is attaining the two-third gender principle in elective seats and other public offices. In their quest for leadership women equally face physical and digital harassment and other forms of degrading, dehumanising and demeaning actions meant to blur and blunt their vision.
In this regard, WON aims to provide a platform to women seeking leadership by linking them with journalists for increased coverage. WON will also train journalists on reporting on women and elections ahead of the 2027 General Election and beyond.
The training will be informed by a gender sensitive reporting tool that WON will develop in collaboration with other actors.
